1983 Motobecane Grand Record – Custom – Campagnolo Super Record Triple 56cm – $1200
This is a very special bicycle. Our latest custom build / restoration project.
The bike was originally a custom project about ten years ago, after which it bounced around between a few dealers and we eventually received it. Sadly in some disrepair, but with a lot of potential. The frame was custom painted by the very reputable Joe Bell in California. One of the best in bicycle painting. http://www.yelp.com/biz/joe-bell-bicycle-refinishing-spring-valley
The paint job and lettering are absolutely stunning despite the farm etching a few nicks in that ten years. Amazing detail work around the lugs, Gold lettering and pin striping, with all of the most appropriate Campagnolo and Reynolds 531 labeling.
If that weren’t enough the bike is dressed with the best of Campagnolo. The drivetrain is the virtually non-existent Super Record Triple. As far as I know these triple parts were taken from the stock used for tandem bikes. The brakes are Campagnolo Super Record Cobalto with drilled levers. Super Record aero seatpost. White leather Concor saddle. Brand New vintage Suntour freewheel. The wheels are hand laced Campy Super Record/ Mavic GP4 tubulars with BRAND NEW Continental tubulars. There is even a brand new tubular spare tire included with the bike.
The cockpit has been redone with a new, vintage style shallow drop bar from Velo Orange for a more modern fit.
I have personally ridden the bike for a few medium length rides and it’s exceptional. The only flaws are a couple of notable blemishes to the finish, but that finish still shines and represents some of the finest custom bicycle finishing.
